How to have a sustainable wedding

We are all becoming more aware of where our food, clothes and other essentials are from and how they are made. Sustainability is clearly on the rise, and that’s a good thing.

At Written in the Stars Weddings & Celebrations, we often get questions about sustainable weddings. We’ve answered some of them here for you.

Is it even possible to make a wedding sustainable?

Absolutely. In fact, having a sustainable wedding won’t limit your wedding experience in any way.

Before you start planning, be clear on which degree of sustainability you’re aiming for. A 100% sustainable wedding or just some sustainable elements?

Every bridal couple has a different perception of sustainability. What’s yours? Some couples want to have regional products and get married in the outdoors, far from any hustle and bustle.

Other couples envision a wedding in a barn with a completely vegan wedding dinner.

There are countless ways of having a sustainable wedding. Written in the Stars Weddings & Celebrations will help you decide while making your heart’s desire come true

Will we have to abstain from any luxury to have a sustainable wedding?

Certainly not. Again, we’ll have to find out what luxury means to you, first.

Here’s an example of a sustainable luxury wedding: A wedding in the mountains.

A wedding reception at an elevation of 10,000 feet at a gourmet restaurant. Elegant decoration made from dried flowers and potted plants that can be reused after the wedding. A gourmet meal made exclusively with local ingredients from sustainable farmers.

A sustainably produced customized wedding dress. We can make most any aspect of your wedding sustainable.

May I apply bridal makeup for a sustainable wedding?

Written in the Stars recommends using a hair & makeup artist specialized in sustainable makeup.

Here are some of the aspects to consider: Which bridal makeup brands are you using? Are they manufactured sustainably?

If animal protection is important to you, make sure the makeup producers don’t rely on animals for product testing. Use synthetic cosmetic brushes.

How will our wedding guests react to a sustainable wedding?

Once you’ve decided on a sustainable wedding, you should stand by your decision. The wedding party usually consists of family and friends that know the couple well and are familiar with their mindset and values.

Of course, some of your guests might not take sustainability very seriously and might be somewhat amused by it.

Rest assured: Once they see the result, they’ll be convinced.

Is it possible to have a sustainable wedding with over 100 people?

Whether your wedding party consists of 30, 100 or 500 guests only affects the organization and planning process.

The more people, the more work. This applies to any wedding, no matter if you opt for a destination wedding or a sustainable wedding.

Are sustainable weddings expensive?

Our experience at Written in the Stars Weddings & Celebrations is that there’s no price difference.

The most relevant factor is which part of the world you choose for your sustainable wedding. Some regions are not well equipped for the sustainability market yet. In the Alps, we’ve clearly spearheaded this movement. Regionalism and sustainability are well developed here.

So the Alps are certainly an ideal location for a sustainable wedding offering the necessary infrastructure.

At Written in the Stars Weddings & Celebrations by Verena Krenn, we clearly have a love for sustainable weddings. We’d be delighted to support you to write your own personal, sustainable love story.

Yours, Verena
